The following events are open to all registered ASERA54 attendees. All registered ASERA54 attendees will be sent an email to confirm attendance at these events.

Conference Welcome Reception*

All conference attendees are invited to join us for the ASERA54 Conference Welcome Reception.

This is an opportunity for attendees to meet informally and network before the beginning of the conference parallel presentations.

When: Tuesday 27th June (catering will be provided)

Where: Cairns Convention Centre, Auditorium Mezzanine Foyer (Level 1)

*Not included for those that have purchased a 1 day registration.

Conference Dinner*

All conference attendees are invited to join us for the ASERA54 Conference Dinner.

When: Thursday 29th June 

Where: Cairns Convention Centre, City Terrace

Events for Higher Degree by Research (HDR) and Early Career Researchers (ECRs) attending ASERA54

As part of ASERA54, we are proud to facilitate the annual HDR/ECR "Seaside" Chat*.

This is an informal gathering for ECR/HDRs to network and share ideas with peers and two experienced science education academics about how to launch and maintain academic career. 

When: Wednesday 28th June (light supper will be provided)

Where: Cairns Convention Centre

The Seaside Chat is open to all* ECR/HDRs who have purchased a full conference reregistration. All registered ASERA54 attendees will be sent an email to confirm attendance at this event and will need to RSVP by 16th June AEST to confirm their attendance.

Seaside Chat Facilitators:

Assoc. Prof. Alberto Bellocchi

Alberto Bellocchi is an Associate Professor of Science Education at the Queensland University of Technology. He developed and leads the Learning Science and Innovation Laboratory, which advances a program of research addressing cognitive, emotional, and innovation dimensions of learning and teaching science and science teacher education.

Dr James Davis

James Davis is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Teacher Education and Leadership at the
Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. His research focuses on the teaching and learning of science, integrated STEM, and  entrepreneurial education, mostly in school and teacher education contexts. He has experience across a range of qualitative methodologies including interpretive, social, and phenomenological approaches as well as discourse analysis, and more recently design-based research. He also has earlier career experiences in clinical health research with quantitative methods. James is an associate editor
of Research in Science Education.
