Conference Session Descriptions

ASERA 2019 is designed to optimise constructive discussion about research in science education. In order to celebrate the longevity of the ASERA research community, it is requested that all conference papers and posters make reference to at least one paper that has been published in ASERA’s journal, Research in Science Education (RISE) which originated from the ASERA Conferences.  In this way the influence of past ASERA conferences and RISE publications can be celebrated.

In 2019 there will be two formats for presentations: Papers and Posters.

Paper Presentation Sessions

Oral paper presentation sessions will be allocated 40 minutes. This comprises 20 minutes for the paper presentation time and 20 minutes for questions and discussion time. Participants seeking to lead a paper presentation need to be able to engage the audience in 20 minutes of critical, but positive, conversation between themselves as the researcher and their audience. If a presenter would like to share their paper with audience members, please ask the audience members to provide their email address so that a copy of the paper can be sent electronically after the presentation.

Poster Presentations

Posters will be on display in a dedicated area, which will also be the venue for all meals. Researchers should prepare a poster (A0= 841mm x 1189mm, or A1= 594mm x 841mm) that details their research (questions, methodology, analysis and results) and a short introduction to the key ideas of their research. Details regarding poster presentations will be provided closer to the conference.

Call for Papers and Posters

To be considered for either an oral or poster presentation at the conference you need to submit an abstract of no more than 200 words. It is expected that the abstract will be relevant to science education research and linked to a RISE publication. All abstracts submitted will be refereed and applicants will be notified if they are successful.

You will also be required to submit registration and payment by Monday 25th March 2019 as approved abstracts will only be included in the conference program if registration and payment have been received by this date.

Submission limit: There is a limit to the number of papers that an author may submit for presentation. Each author is allowed a maximum of ONE sole author session plus ONE co-authored session during the conference (maximum of two). Please note that the first author and presenter MUST be an ASERA member.
