Expressions of Interest: Co-Editor-in-Chief of ‘Research In Science Education’ (RISE)

Expressions of interest are sought from experienced science education academics with strong research profiles for the role of Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Australasian Science Education Research Association’s (ASERA) journal, Research In Science Education (RISE). 

The role of Co-Editor-in-Chief is a three-year appointment and Associate Professor Wendy Nielsen’s term will complete in 2024. A new Co-Editor-in-Chief is sought to work with Associate Professor Kok-Sing Tang and the RISE Editorial Board. RISE is one of the top journals in the world in the field of science education. An experienced person with considerable reviewing experience with RISE and other high-quality science education journals is sought.

The role involves setting policy and direction for RISE in consultation with the Editorial Board and the ASERA Board of Directors, and working with Springer Nature, the publisher. It involves evaluating around 250-300 submitted manuscripts each year, deciding which will be sent for review and assigning Associate Editors and reviewers, as well as working with the Assistant Editors and the publisher on production issues. The Co-Editors-in-Chief are responsible for renewing and working with the Associate Editors, the Editorial Board, and the large team of dedicated reviewers to ensure that manuscripts are reviewed at a very high standard and in a timely manner. 

The position is for 3 years starting on January 1, 2025.

In your Expression of interest, please address the following criteria:

  1. A strong track record in science education research.
  2. Demonstrated service to the science education research community.
  3. Significant skill in editorial, reviewing and/or administrative work.
  4. Permanent resident or citizen located in the Australasian region. [Please note that while preference will be given to ASERA members that meet this criterion, we will consider ASERA members from outside the region that meet the other criteria. Non-ASERA members can also apply but they must make a commitment to join ASERA if selected. ]

Expressions of Interest will be reviewed and discussed by the Co-Editors-in-Chief and a final decision will be made in consultation with the Editorial Board and the ASERA Executive Board.
